Comprehensive Eye Exams

Eye care starts with annual routine examinations. Your complete examination will reveal any eye problems, even hidden ones you may not be aware of. We are committed to providing you with the most advanced technology to care for your eye health as well as your visual comfort so the quality and efficiency of your vision helps you achieve your full potential at work, in the classroom, for hobbies, sports and everyday life.

If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, elevated cholesterol, or thyroid disease, your vision and the health of your eyes could be affected. Also, certain medications can cause visual problems, which is why it's so important to have your eyes examined on an annual basis.

We diagnose and treat many eye problems, including eye trauma, glaucoma, diabetic eye diseases, eye infections, macular degeneration and other retinal problems.

Lenses and frames at Lexington Family Eyecare. Your exam will consist of three phases:

The first part of the eye examinations is pre-testing. In this phase of the exam, the technicians will ask you questions about your health, your family history, and your specific eye health. They will also perform a few tests to get vital information for the doctor to review. This may likely include a photo of your retina
The second part of the exam, the doctor will check your refractive error. This portion is where the doctor will determine your exact prescription should you need vision correction
The second part of the examination concentrates on the health aspect of your eye. During this part of the exam, your doctor will examine the structures of the eye for diseases or complications. This includes cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease

Children's Vision

Taking your child for a comprehensive eye exam is the most important thing you can do for your child's eye health. We can complete this test even if your child doesn't know their ABC's.

We use shapes, animals and other child friendly ways to evaluate vision and eye health. We incorporate the use of cartoon automated chart so the child can have fun while they have an exam.

We recommend a comprehensive eye examination for your child beginning at 3 years of age, and sooner if problems are suspected. Good vision is critical to your child's ability to learn. All children must have the tools they need to succeed, and that begins with eyesight, which ensures they can see a bright future. Many children accept poor vision and other eye ailments as normal. A parent can be the first to detect early symptoms such as:

• Covering one eye when looking at an object

• Rubbing of eyes or excessive blinking

• Misalignment of eyes

• Lack of concentration

At Lexington Family Eyecare your exam will consist of three phases:

The first part of the examination is the pre-testing portion. This part of the examination will include asking the mom, dad, or caregiver questions about the physical and ocular health of the child. We will also perform a few tests that will give the doctor vital information that will help them determine how healthy the eyes are
The second portion of the examination is the health portion. In this part of the exam, the doctor will examine the structures of the eye for eye diseases, including hereditary retinal diseases, cataracts, and other conditions that can limit vision for the child. We will likely dilate the child’s eyes so our doctor can check the internal retina fully. Retinal photos will also be taken and reviewed with the parent or caregiver. The retinal photos are really an easy way to review the retinal health of the child as they are not traumatic to the child and allow a steady, clear picture to be displayed for review by the doctor
Lastly, the doctor will check the refractive error of the child as well as the balance of the eye muscles, to make sure conditions such as amblyopia (lazy eye), far sightedness, near sightedness, and astigmatism do not exist, and if they do, determine a plan to correct them

Infant's Vision

Our doctor’s care about your baby's eyes and have enrolled in InfantSEE. This is a volunteer public health program.

This is a volunteer public health program through the American Optometric Association designed to ensure that eye care becomes an integral part of infant wellness to improve a child’s quality of life. Under this program your doctors will provide a comprehensive infant eye assessment for infants between the ages of 6 months to 1 year of life regardless of your access to insurance coverage.

Urgent Care

Lexington Family Eyecare doctors are available for consultation and emergency care after hours in the event you experience an eye injury or emergency.

Simply call us any time, day or night, 24/7, to reach one of our doctors. If you experience an eye emergency during regular business hours, call our office or just walk in to be seen as soon as possible.

Examples of urgent eye vision care situations include:

• A red and painful eye, especially one that is light sensitive or accompanied by nausea

• A painful eye injury

• Foreign objects such as plastics or metals in the eye

• Sudden loss of vision or a sudden change in vision

• Sudden onset of flashing lights, especially when accompanied by a change in vision

• Chemical exposure

• Blunt trauma to the eye

Surgical Co-Management

Laser correction: Laser Vision Correction is a group of surgical procedures developed to help you reduce or even eliminate your need for eyeglasses or contact lenses. LASIK is the most common type of procedure to reshape the cornea. Most patients are very happy with the results. It's no wonder that LASIK laser vision correction has quickly emerged as one of the true medical breakthroughs of modern history.

We partner with Nebraska Laser Eye Associates and closely work with you and their top-rated surgeons or a surgeon of your choice to assure the best surgical outcome. All pre-operative and post-operative care can be conveniently performed in our office.

Cataracts

Although not everyone will get cataracts, spending a lot of time in the sun, smoking, and other lifestyle factors may increase your chances. A cataract is essentially a clouding of the eye's lens, and may cause a varying degree of vision obstruction. When cataracts become larger, they can obstruct the lens and interfere with the way your optic system processes light, creating blurry vision, trouble with night vision or difficulty distinguishing dark blue from black. Not all cataracts will cause vision disturbances - sometimes they cause only minor clouding and do not worsen. When the lens loses clarity due to a cataract, the only solution is to replace the lens through cataract surgery. Your conscientious and highly experienced doctors will perform a thorough preoperative eye examination to determine if surgery is appropriate for your individual case. We will further discuss the benefits, risks, available options, and preparation and recovery associated with the surgery to ensure that your goals and expectations are realistic. We partner with Kearney Eye Institute and closely work with you to assure the best surgical outcome.

Treatment

Cirrus OCT, Humphrey visual field testing, digital retinal photography, and fully automated exam rooms and acuity charts. We diagnose and manage glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and red eyes. We will work with local surgeons and specialists, if your case requires extra care or surgery.

Our doctors are additionally trained to remove foreign body material from the eye and eyelid if needed at a fraction of the cost of a hospital emergency room visit.
